Electric appliance monthly energy costs

How much does it cost per month to operate your appliances? You’ll find the average monthly operating costs for many of them in the table above. Keep in mind that these costs will rise as the cost of energy rises during the coming years.

We’ve used the average residential rate of 10.2¢ per kilowatt-hour (2006 average of all North Carolina’s electric cooperatives combined) to calculate these numbers. All kilowatt-hour calculations are rounded to the nearest 1. All cost calculations are rounded to the nearest 1¢. The cost to operate any appliance can be calculated with this formula:

Operating cost = wattage/1,000 x hours used x cost/kilowatt-hour.
