The ’54 Merc

My first car was a 1954 Mercury Monterey 2-door hardtop. When I was 4 years old, my grandparents parked it in their basement and told me it was mine, even though my Dad had begged for it years earlier when he was 16. When I was 12, my Dad and I painted the car and rebuilt the engine. It was not a total restoration, just paint and re-chroming the bumpers. It still has the original interior in it. In the 1990s my wife and I showed the car in many car shows and received two Best-in-Show awards. The car is still with us and will be handed down when the time comes.

The picture shows the Merc at Lake Chatuge in 1959. We still have that ’59 plate.
