Harvey
When I turned 21 in 1955, I was aboard a jet flying south to live with my brother and his family, and I had left my gray Ford sedan in Pennsylvania. My family thought it dangerous for such a young gal to be driving 1,200 miles south alone, so I decided the wisest thing to do was to give my wonderful Dad my car. However, after a short time without a car, I realized learning new bus routes in search of a job and losing my freedom to go as I please wasn’t much fun. My brother and I shopped and shopped, but as soon as I saw the bright yellow Dodge convertible, I knew instantly Harvey and I were meant for each other. Harvey and I made friends easily. With Harvey, I found a job at the telephone company, found four new girlfriends to enjoy weekends at the beach and dancing at The Coliseum every weekend, and my future husband found me!
Something on the car’s door cut my knee, sending me to the hospital. A dozen stitches left a huge scar and many more than a dozen memories of my fun adventures with Harvey.
