If I Were Governor of North Carolina...

Fisheries, blueberries, drivers

  • Remove over a three-year period all trawlers and long haulers from the inside waters of North Carolina. This recovery would reestablish an abundant marine-based economy for Eastern North Carolina.
  • Develop a blueberry wine industry all over eastern North Carolina. This berry can challenge the grape wine industry in both quality and quantity and be a major economic factor in North Carolina.
  • Within Public Health establish a new, independent first-level health practitioner classification. This would be an approximately one- to two-year post-high school education, not a physician’s assistant and not a nurse. Every home would be covered for the first level of medical care and comprehensive prevention.
  • Get a law passed that every new person licensed to drive must drive five miles below the speed limit for the first year.
  • Blanket the state with public service ads push the “Rule of 99+” (“Think well of other drivers because 99+ percent of the time you will be right.”)
