Donna Reed’s pen pal For years, I never listened to my grandmother’s long stories. However, one day she mentioned in passing that she was mayor of Commack, NY. I found this quite intriguing and came to learn much more. When I was younger, my grandmother always mentioned some letters from some movie star. I blew this off. After watching “It’s a Wonderful Life,” my grandmother mentioned the letters to me again. This time I didn’t let it go in one ear and out the other. I learned that in 1934, my grandmother began a correspondence with Donna Reed. It lasted until 1984 when Reed died. However, my grandmother never met Donna. After reading some of these letters, I urged my grandmother to do something with them. She got in contact with someone. On June 26, 2004 in Denison, Iowa, the Donna Reed Museum officially opened.
