Stories about getting to know your grandparents

Brothers abroad

I was talking to my grandpa, Donald Pruett, about the Korean War. He was with a group of men, and one of the guys stepped on a mine. Grandpa’s leg was injured. Two friends made a saddle pack to carry him out. His leg was in too much pain. Another friend who was big and strong carried him like a baby for one mile to get help.

He was sent to a hospital. He stayed 30 days. His brother, Harold Pruett, had been in the army. My Uncle Harold and Grandpa had not seen each other in two years. Uncle Harold stayed in the same town where my grandpa was in the hospital. He did not get to visit my grandpa because he did not know he was wounded.
