Learning who you are
I
just finished my sophomore year of high school, and it wasn’t
until this school year that I truly discovered who I really am.
Throughout
middle school and partly through my two years of high school, I
longed to be part of the “cool” crowd. Being involved
in this particular crowd seemed to be, at the time, the only way
to enjoy my school years. Was I ever wrong!
Before
learning that lesson, I tried way too hard to buy the right clothes,
listen to the right music and go to the right places. I constantly
questioned what people were thinking and who was looking. If anything,
I did exactly opposite in my intentions to look and act cool.
Now
that I reflect on the past, I can see that I am exactly where I
need to be, and there was a reason and a lesson to learn in my
struggle to fit in. It’s as simple as this: Don’t try
to mold yourself into something you’re not.
