No firewood at the mall
Back in 1980 during the days of two young children, a hardworking husband and heating with a woodstove, Christmas was quickly approaching. Panic had set in.
Joe agreed to come home early one afternoon to baby-sit. Always the one to wisely take advantage of every hour, he rented a log splitter to use while I was toy shopping. As he walked into the house, I promptly dashed out the door anxious to drive 30 minutes to the mall and start checking off Santa’s list.
Exhausted after completing my task, I stepped onto the shopping center parking lot at dusk looking through the maze of vehicles for my own. I was shocked when I saw the log splitter still attached to my car and obstructing other drivers!
I was hyperventilating when I rushed home to find Joe in his recliner after a long afternoon of entertaining Alison and Austin. He looked at me quizzically saying, “I called the police to stop you when you crossed the bridge into town, but they didn’t see you.”
Oh well, Christmas was saved, and many laughs have been shared with my family and friends, as this story has become part of our yearly tradition.
