Helping with 4-H
The best investment I’ve
ever made is the time I spend assisting my daughter and other youth
in my community with their 4-H activities. We spend endless hours
for officer duties, presentations, public speaking engagements,
community service activities and raising and showing lambs, pigs
or steers in the 4-H livestock show. They paid off in big bucks
and other ways.
The diverse experiences give young adults
their people skills. They can communicate effectively with the
public. They have confidence and positive self esteem. My daughter’s
numerous 4-H activities were a big contributing factor to her being
awarded 13 academic scholarships ranging from $100 to $10,000 (enough
to pay for her four-year education at North Carolina State University).
Searching
for scholarships and assisting in proofing applications required
many hours of burning the midnight oil for me. Her presentations
and experiences in 4-H helped prepare her for scholarship interviews.
I am very proud of her now as an Environmental Engineer. What
better venture could a mother make then an investment in our children
who are the future leaders of our community and county?
