Mo Wood's skiff

As I sit here on my pier on the banks
of the White Oak River, I am watching “Mo Wood’s Investment” bob
in the water. My late husband Mike Wood was nicknamed Mo Wood,
and his prized possession was a 21-foot Coastal Skiff. He said
he used the boat to “practice being retired.”
Mike and
his friends enjoyed setting flounder nets in the river. His boat
was perfect for setting nets since the front of the boat was flat.
He also enjoyed fishing the Intercoastal Waterway for spot in the
fall. I even got to go spot fishing with him since they’re
really easy to catch. Occasionally, on a calm day, he went out
through the inlet to fish for Spanish mackerel.
Mike was a financial
planner with American Express for 21 years. During that time, he
had helped his clients invest their money wisely and plan for their
future.
Mike died suddenly of an aneurysm on July
13, 2002, at the age of 55. After his death, our adult children,
Carolyn and Mickey, decided to keep the boat and name it “Mo
Wood’s Investment.”
