Lessons You Learned From Children

Enjoy every day

After our first child, my husband and I thought we knew much about kids. When we had our second one we thought we were experts in child-rearing. After our third child, we found out how much we had to learn.

Our first daughter, Leslie, had her first child after five years of marriage. Now at age 43 she has five. Our middle daughter, Lori, had her first child after four years of marriage and now has four. Our youngest son, David, has two children.

As I observe how my children parent their children, they’ve taught me what patience, kindness and love are all about. After teaching in public schools for several years, our two daughters decided to make mothering their career. They find no greater joy than being with their children full-time. With home schooling they are with them 24 hours daily.

They taught me that God has no greater ministry than being a good mother. I am a better grandmother because of what my children have taught me. The lesson I learned is this: Life is so short and your children live with you but a short span. Enjoy them while you rear them.
