How to Live a Long Life

Move to Newport

Ramona Aponte

Ramona Aponte of Newport is 101 years old. She will be 102 on Feb. 5, 2004. She came to America from Puerto Rico as a young girl. She lived most of her life in New York City, but has spent the past 30 years in Newport.

She lives alone and maintains her own home. She does all of her own cooking so her "special" diet is just right. Her house is immaculately kept. You can often find flowers blooming in her yard.

She speaks Spanish, so she can help young people learn to speak this language. She also translates for Spanish-speaking people at church. She is very active at church and rarely misses a service.

When asked why she has lived for so long, she replies, "Hard work, moving to Newport, being with good people. The Lord has been so good to me."
