How to Live a Long Life

Greet people with a smile

Granny

My grandmother has lived a long, healthy life by staying active. She is now 85. Despite being legally blind, she remains fiercely independent and determined. She is also very generous and nurturing. She is active in church and relies on her strong faith in God. Granny frequently works in her vegetable and flower gardens. This picture was taken during the summer of 2002 just after she finished working in her vegetable garden. She is in the process of making quilts for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After leaving a 20-year career in textiles, Granny opened her own small business. She closed shop last year after 40 years in business. However, I believe her secret to a healthy, happy life is greeting everyone—friend, family or acquaintance— with a hug and a smile.
