My Money Pit

Arizona real estate

Wishing to move away from the debilitating high humidity of North Carolina’s coastal islands, I had a realtor in Tucson, Arizona, show me some lovely houses in April 2003. However, on the flight returning to the East Coast, I gave careful consideration to my monetary circumstances, and I realized that if my present home was not sold within a month or even several months, the $1,000 earnest money I had paid, plus insurance and taxes on two houses – in North Carolina and Arizona – would be an astronomical attack on my meager senior citizen budget.

Immediately after landing, I called the realtor to cancel my hope for a Tucson abode, and she assured me I would no doubt lose my down payment. Even though 24 hours had not passed, I did lose $250 to her and $750 to the owner of the house I had wanted. The realtor worked diligently to find just what I wanted and I appreciated her concern, but I sincerely resent the large portion of my down payment which the house owner did nothing for — $750 of my down payment of $1,000.
