The buffet dinner
It was December 2000. My husband and I had only been married for four short months. We decided that we would take a quick vacation down to Myrtle Beach one weekend. Wanting to make every moment count, we planned all of our activities in advance. We had decided that Saturday night, the last night of our trip, we would eat at a nice seafood restaurant.
Saturday night quickly came. We got dressed up not knowing for sure where we would be going. We got in our car and soon found a seafood restaurant. As we walked in, the place looked pricey. Not being able to eat much, my husband and I each had about two trips to the buffet.
Soon after we finished eating the waitress came with the bill. The whole meal cost $70. The buffet was $30 apiece. Drinks (two teas) were $2.50 apiece, then tip. The food was good, but we definitely didn’t eat $70 worth. For some people that might not be a problem, but our family doesn’t even spend $70 a week on groceries.
After the meal, we felt miserable. We thought of everything we could have done with $70. We could have stayed one more night at the beach, with money left over. I guess you live and learn. Looking back it was a funny experience and every time we go to Myrtle Beach and see that restaurant we make jokes about wanting to eat there.
