To avoid confusion Being the first daughter in the family, I was named for my mother and grandmother: Mary Ruth Talbert. As so often happens, my grandmother came to live with us for the first few weeks to help take care of the newborn. But what to call the baby? If someone said, "Mary," my mother answered.
