How I Got My Name

To avoid confusion

Being the first daughter in the family, I was named for my mother and grandmother: Mary Ruth Talbert. As so often happens, my grandmother came to live with us for the first few weeks to help take care of the newborn. But what to call the baby? If someone said, "Mary," my mother answered. When she heard "Ruth," my grandmother replied. Daddy began to call me his "little Miss T." Within a few weeks the name was permanent: Misty.
