Neighbors keep getting better

What makes “the finest neighbor I ever
knew” the finest neighbor? It seems each time Larry and I
have moved throughout our 45 years of marriage our neighbors get
better. One outdoes the last. Of course, they don't know they’re
up against any competition and we haven’t tried to “do
better.” It just has worked out that way.
From the beginning we could tell our present
neighbors were good people. They came and talked to us as we stood
outside waiting for our furniture to arrive. They invited us for
supper that night. The night before they invited us to stay with
them when our furniture hadn’t arrived. We chose to stay in
our empty house instead, and they brought us sleeping bags.
As time has gone on our relationship has just
gotten better. We’ve shared many meals together, both “out”
and “in.” We’ve taken trips together. We’ve
shared sorrows and joys. We’ve played together and prayed
together. Without thinking, we now have the finest neighbors in
Haynes and Doris Jean Harbour’s friendship. It’s not
that they treat us any different than anyone else they know They
are friends to all, and we’re just one of the luckiest to
live next door to them.
