Wolfpack National Championship The finest moment in North Carolina sports was when Jim Valvano led the Wolfpack to the national championship in 1983. North Carolina State whipped Houston’s butt in one of the most spectacular games of the year. The score was 55-53. People went crazy with excitement. They bought T-shirts, jackets, Coca-Cola bottles, stickers, cups and other miscellaneous Wolfpack items that were for sale. A lot of people collected their winnings because they had bet money on that basketball game. It was a time of celebration all over the state, especially for Wolfpack fans. People got drunk and danced in the streets of Raleigh. Some people even overturned cars. These events went on for several days, and they were publicized on national television. Although I was still a child in 1983, I will never forget that moment in North Carolina history. Go Wolfpack! Tschanna Harris
