Moving to the farm
The best summer I ever had, though I wouldn’t have known it at the time, was the summer of 2004. I was 11 and had lived in Norfolk all my life. When I found out we were moving to a farm in North Carolina I wasn’t too thrilled. What I didn’t know was that move would change my life forever.
When we got settled in I was too hurt and angry to notice the beauty of God’s creation all around me. We were all too busy for me even to have time for sulking.
There was a barn to be built, chickens to feed, a garden to tend and chores to do. Since I have seven younger brothers and sisters, there were quite a few things to do. What I didn’t know at the time was that I learned to love the country. I know the woods like the back of my hand.
Next door I met some of the most wonderful neighbors I’ve ever known, who are now some of the closest friends I have.
