Adults these days are just as likely to ask a child how to operate a computer or a DVD player as they are to consult an operator’s manual. Maybe it’s because adults have more on their mind, while children can get right down to work. Or maybe kids are just smarter about some things. We can be satisfied if we can call someone on our mobile phone, but a teenager can store 20 phone numbers, set up the answering service, check the battery power and reach the Internet.

Here is a selection of kids’ reports on the technology that means the most to them. Looking over all those submitted, we noticed that video games did not dominate. Kids today think there’s more to life than Playstation and Game Cube.
