The fishing lamp
We had just bought a new mobile home in Emerald Isle and were getting it furnished. We walked around the neighborhood looking at the yard sales and the other homes when we came upon a big yard sale. My husband Don is an avid fisherman, and he had to stop and look at the fishing equipment. He finally bought a rod and reel. We looked at all the treasures or junk at this house. On the edge of the carport I saw the ugliest lamp that I have ever seen. It was made of driftwood and painted black and had a green oval shade on it. I said surely no one would have that in their house.
My husband said, "You know after it is cleaned up somewhat it wouldn't look too bad on our end table.” So we bought the lamp, the rod and reel and started walking down the road. I was carrying the rod and reel, and my husband was carrying the lamp. It looked like we had been fishing and we had taken the ugly lamp along to see with. We actually stopped traffic along Highway 58.
