Whoa Okra!

We live on a horse farm, and if time permits we will grow a small vegetable garden. We grow basically the same variety vegetables. Because of the abundance of horse manure, we fertilize the garden organically.

One year, I noticed the okra was growing rather fast and tall. We always grow the same type of okra, so I didn’t attribute the accelerated growth to a different variety and gave praise to the horse manure. The okra kept growing and growing until it reached an average height of 11 feet.

I grew up in the country and worked in the garden as part of my family chores. I have never seen okra grow this tall. Prior to this crop and crops grown since this one, the okra in our garden has been approximately 4 feet tall.

This was one year the okra crop was not raided by small critters looking for a midnight snack!
