Showing off the children

My mother took this photo in the spring of 1944. She had to rent a camera that looked like a black box from the Rexall Drug Store in St. Pauls, N.C. We lived on the Balance farm about five miles out of town. She dressed us in our best clothes to take a photo to send to her brother who was in the US Army, stationed in the Philippines. She wanted him to see her new baby and how much my brother and I had grown. My brother was saluting to him. He was 11 years old, I was 4, and our baby sister was nine months.

My brother, James Edward Hollingsworth, died March 29, 2005. He would have been 73 years old April 29, 2005. I will be 67 on May 14, 2007. My baby sister, Mary Elsie Love, will be 64 on July 13, 2007. She lives near Raeford. I actually remember our mother taking this photo and how proud she was to show off her children.
