this article as a
Burger King graduate
I had just turned 16 when I
got my first job at Burger King in Crabtree Valley Mall, Raleigh,
the day after Thanksgiving. I proudly got into my uniform, fixed
up my hair and put on my make-up. My mother and sisters said that
they would come by the restaurant to get some dinner when they
went shopping at the mall.
By the time my mother arrived, my hair
was falling out of my ponytail holder, I had sweated off all of
my make-up, my bangs were sticking to my forehead, and I was covered
in grease. When I got home that evening, I declared to my mother
that I had made up my mind to go to college.
