Chicken salad
One spring I bought chicken salad from a local grocery store. At lunchtime that day, I spread the salad on crackers, devouring several. It was delicious!
Later that afternoon, while playing miniature golf, I noticed that my arms were itching inside my elbows. I figured it was from the heat. That evening, I was reading a book when my back started itching. I looked in the mirror and saw large welts under my shoulder blades. I wondered what was going on, but I went to bed assuming that it would be better by morning.
The next day I finished off the chicken salad and for a split second wondered if eating the salad could have caused my problem.
Later that night, I was sure of it. I was covered in hives by bedtime. They were on my scalp and ran all the way to the bottoms of my feet. The only place spared was my face, thank God. I was up during the night, rubbing ice cubes on my feet, seeking relief. I took Benadryl and used an ointment from the drug store for four days. Finally, the hives began to recede.
