Carolina Country Scenes 2015

A gallery of your favorite photos

Thanks to everyone who submitted pictures to our annual photo contest. The judges had the enjoyable but difficult task of choosing among about 600 photos of people and places throughout North Carolina. In addition to the images published this month, we'll run more of the pictures in a "Photo of the Month" feature beginning in the March magazine. More selections will appear as the "Photo of the Week". And our  Facebook page is a place where we show even more pictures, including those you can post there yourself.

  • I look forward to seeing the submissions in the Carolina Country magazine every year, but I feel that some of the winning submissions don't have much to do with the category this year. The very last picture is one I particularly like because it really IS in the country, but in my opinion, the photo of the girl tossing her hair about doesn't convey anything about Carolina Country. It just shows that the photographer has a Prime lens and was able to use a fast shutter speed with a low aperture setting. The picture with the dog is cute, but could easily be a Washington scene, and the picture of the two cute kids just makes the cut for me because you can barely see some kind of Carolina in the background. I know I am nit-picking, but that's just my two cents.

  • Would it be possible to get a copy of one of the photos posted? the one of the cows in the late evening on the side of the mountain?
The photo was taken by jerry cotton, of chapel hill, and was numbered #20 in the magazine this month? I would really appreciate it if you would contact him for me, or let me know how to contact him?

  • Thanks for your comments. The pictures shown in Carolina Country Scenes show North Carolina people, places or things. All submissions came from North Carolina people. As part of our judging criteria, we also take a look at the accompanying stories that people send in. Ultimately we are looking for a well-shot photo, taken in North Carolina, with an interesting story to accompany it. Luckily we got quite a few of these this year.
