Planting Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums ensure colorful accents in autumn gardens. The golds, yellows, bronzes and rusts reflect colorful autumn leaves. Low-growing, cushion-type mums are not disbudded like the tall-growing “football” types. The latter type should be staked for support in autumn winds. If you desire house shade, but lack space for a tree, try vines on trellises for house walls facing west or south. Also, consider using vine trellises near windows. They can lower temperatures as much as 10 degrees.
