Mosquito tips

A British researcher has developed 11 mosquito-repellent compounds by extracting chemicals from people who never get bitten by mosquitoes. But it’s not on the market anytime soon. In the meantime, the Centers for Disease Control continue to recommend staying inside when mosquitoes are most active; covering up with light-covered clothing when outdoors; or applying repellent containing N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) to exposed skin. Also, eliminate breeding areas on your property. Mosquitoes can breed in as little as 1/4 inch of water. So survey your yard every few days and think like a mosquito: Up-end any container, no matter how small. Also, clean any clogged rain gutters and look for standing water in tarps.
