Bring spring inside

Branches of many shrubs and some trees can be forced to flower indoors. Trees tend to be stubborn; their blossoms may not be as rewarding as those of shrubs. Others can add color and interest to indoor living areas during the winter. With proper timing, blooms can be had at Christmas.

These numbers indicate the approximate number of weeks they will take to flower after branches are brought indoors: Flowering almond-3; Deutzia-3; Flowering quince-4; Forsythia-1; Honeysuckle-3; Lilac-4; Oriental magnolia-3; Pussy willow-2; Spirea-4; Wisteria-3; Spicebush-2; Crab apple-4; Cherry-4; Cornelian dogwood-2; Horse chestnut-5; Red-twig dogwood-5; Redbud-2; Flowering dogwood-5; Redmaple-2.
