Phillippine Lily
An old Southern favorite, the white trumpet-shaped bloom of the Philllippine lily (a variety of Lilium formosanum) has regained popularity for Southern gardens, partly because of its ease of maintenance and spectacular flowers. The blooms are at their peak in July and August. Originally found on the island of Taiwan (formerly known as Formosa), they occur in several types. Philipine lilies are at home in warmer climates than here, but are hardy anywhere in the South. Flowers resemble downward hanging Easter lilies, with a slightly longer trumpet shape. Blooms are white with maroon shading along the outer base. They can rebloom in the season when most other lilies have finished their show.
