Organic Gardening
Gardening without chemicals is growing
in popularity among commercial growers as well as home gardeners. The
most important of the earth’s
resources is a fertile soil, because our food supply depends on it.
Research
has revealed that when heavy concentrations of all the major elements
were doubled in solutions to grow tomatoes, the mite population doubled,
too. Chemical farmers who used twice as much fertilizer as recommended “to
be sure that plants are well fed” then saw plants getting eaten
by pests. Organically grown plants will be eaten by some insects, but
not as much as chemically grown plants. For organically grown plants: “Sticks
and stones may break my leaves and stems, but chemicals will never harm
me.”
