Care of Newly-Set Trees

The first year after setting a tree is critical —the better the care, the sooner fruit and nut trees start bearing. Important factors to watch closely include: insect and disease control, mulching to control grass and reduce water loss from evaporation, adequate water during dry spells, and summer pruning or training to shorten time necessary for tree to mature to bearing size.
