For a “Berry Merry” Christmas

Beautyberry (Callicarpa japonica as a native of Japan and C. purpurea as a native of China) bears pinkish blooms in August with violet berries in fall and winter. Use them as indoor decorations in winter. Holly plants bear colorful berries, which are quite popular at Christmastime. Burford, Foster and Nellie Stevens are evergreen hollies. Winterberry (Ilex verticillata) is a deciduous holly that retains its leaves through autumn then sheds them to bear clusters of red berries that are colorful in the garden and useful in decorations. Spray with colorless spray paint to extend the lives of berry clusters.
