Pruning Pyracanthas

Pyracanthas tend to produce long, tall stems. Easily control this type of growth by pinching or cutting away the tips during growing season. This results in compact growth without loss of berries. Rejuvenate oversized plants by cutting back all stems to within one foot above ground level. Do this anytime before growth resumes in spring. However, such severe pruning often results in the loss of berries for one year. Consider giving pyracanthas a light pruning each year instead.
