Apple and peach tree borers

Grubs and larvae bore through barks leaving brown sawdust. On apple trees, dig out borers with knife or heavy wire. Wrap trunks with paper. On peaches, apply paradichlorobenzene when the soil is dry in early September. After removing trash and grass from around base of peach trees, apply one ounce of PDB in a complete circle two inches from the trunk and an inch wide. Cover PDB with 3 inches of soil. Remove soil covering in three to four weeks; if wet, remove in five to six weeks. On young trees, dig borers out with knife. Check with your local county Extension office.
