Animal fertilizers

Long before the production of commercial fertilizers, animal manures were used to fertilize the soil. Manure increases the organic content of the soil and improves bacterial activity. Contrary to popular belief, the actual elements of fertility contained in animal manures are very small when compared to those contained in most inorganic commercial fertilizers. While the actual fertility added to soil by an application of animal manure is very slight, animal manures do improve the physical texture and character of soil.
