"The Fledgling" Watercolor
by Dempsey Essick

Dempsey Essick says it took him hundreds of hours to make this watercolor, mainly in delineating, shading and highlighting each leaf and blade of grass.

For a number of years, the artist has been active in the effort to save the Eastern bluebird, which had been threatened with extinction. Recently he was named president of the North Carolina Bluebird Society (www.ncbluebird.com).

“The Fledgling” is available as a 7-by-5-inch print (framed 12-by-10 inches, with a choice of light or dark frame). The prints are signed and numbered by the artist. They cost $40 (includes tax and shipping).

Dempsey Essick Gallery, 5968 Old Hwy 52, P.O. Drawer 1149, Welcome, NC 27374. Phone: (336) 731-3499. Web: www.dempseyessick.com
