Isabel Breach:
Photography by Peter Hornby
A reminder of Hurricane Isabel in September
2003, this famous photo of the Hatteras Island breach is now
available by mail order.
Photographer Peter Hornby, who lives on
Hatteras Island and in Maine, commented about how amazing it
seemed to look at the new inlet and see water flowing from the
Pamlico Sound eastward into the ocean. A massive governmental
effort eventually filled in the breach and connected the two
ends of Highway 12. Seen here snaking up the beach is the dredge
pipe carrying sand from near Hatteras Inlet.
Peter Hornby's renditions of this scene
are printed on heavy, postcard stock and measure 12 by 18 inches.
The price is $7, including shipping. Checks can be payable to
P.R. Hornby. Prints will be mailed flat.
