“Nights”

This CD by North-Carolina-based bluegrass band “Nu-Blu” offers a driving blend of music, featuring timeless tunes and melodies enhanced with youthful energy and modern twists. Its songs include “I Won’t Be Around,” “How Do I Move On?,” “In and Out of Love,” “My Sweet Carolyn,” and “Lonesome Whistles.” Band members Carolyn Routh, Daniel Routh, Kendall Gales and Levin Austin recorded the CD in Red Squared Audio in Siler City, with additional tracks recorded at Riverside Audio in Mt. Gilead. Nu-Blu was named the 2010 Carolina Music Awards Country Group of the Year, and its label is Pinecastle Records, based in Columbus, N.C. “Nights” has 12 tracks, with a run time of 37 minutes, 38 seconds, and sells for $11.97.

Historically Patriotic

“Historically Patriotic” is a CD featuring a compilation of patriotic favorites performed by the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra. The 10 songs featured include “Lafayette,” an original composition of Maestro Fouad Fakhouri, who is Fayetteville Symphony’s music director and conductor, along with the songs “National Emblem March,” “Fanfare for the Common Man,” “Star Spangled Banner,” Stars and Stripes Forever” and “Fidelis March.” The CD, produced by the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, was partially funded by a grant from the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County to help promote cultural tourism. A cover contest for Cumberland County artists to submit proposed designs reflecting freedom of expression was held, and the CD cover showcases winning artist Anne Evanco’s designs front and back. The CD sells for $10 each.

Trifecta

Trifecta

The polyrhythmic styles of percussionist Chris Conley coupled with the groove of bassist Jeff Hatley comprise the foundation upon which guitarist Will McBride builds the fusion of jazz, funk and pop styles that make up The Will McBride Group’s music. The group, based in Raleigh, has a new CD featuring a mix of original and cover material showcasing a range of contemporary, light and hot jazz. Its ten tracks include “Caravan,” “Keep On Keepin’ On,” “Blue Mex,” “Got To Get You Into My Life” and “The Dichotomy.” “Trifecta” sells for $14.95.

North Carolina Symphony

“Sketches from Pinehurst”

The North Carolina Symphony conveys the history and spirit of Pinehurst on this CD. The composition by Terry Mizesko was written to honor the 2005 U.S. Open. Also included on the CD are works by Benjamin Britten, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Jean-Philippe Rameau. Music director Grant Llewellyn conducted all of the works. The CD is $18. In addition to online purchasing, the CD may be purchased from the North Carolina Symphony at the box office and store in Raleigh. The store is open Monday–Saturday from 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
