Wounded Warrier, the medicine chest in a bottle

Wild crafting—the gathering of herbs for medicinal purposes —has been part of the mountain way of life for centuries. Working from his farm, veteran wild crafter Red Alderman crafted a multi-purpose ointment from fresh, all natural sources. “Wounded Warrior, the all natural topical ointment,” will treat nearly any skin ailment. The fastest-growing application is the treatment of fire ant bites. Wounded Warrior is made from wild or organically grown herbs that are processed, while still fresh, in pharmaceutical-grade alcohol and then blended in an aloe vera gel. It is manufactured in Asheville. Alderman’s daughter, Amy, distributes the product from her home in Wilmington. Wounded Warrior is available today in 800 outlets in 30 states and in numerous other countries. A bottle is $13.99 plus tax and shipping. To find a store near you or to order directly, call (800) 232-7713. Visit the Web at www.woundedwarriorointment.com. Or contact Wounded Warrior, P.O. Box 12095, Wilmington, NC 28405.

American Tie Dye clothes Survivor

EnergyUnited members Erik Chumley and his wife Dawn had been making tie dyes for 12 years when they started their tie dye t-shirt company, American Tie Dye, in 2002. The next year they launched a successful wholesale Web site to sell their shirts and attracted a number of corporate clients. The CBS television network contracted with American Tie Dye to make tank tops to sell as Survivor 8 merchandise on the CBS Web site. The Chumleys were floored when they saw that Survivor contestant Rupert Boneham was wearing an American Tie Dye tank top the night he won $1 million in the season’s final show. The Chumleys are opening a retail store in Taylorsville this summer, but you can buy their shirts online at www.americantiedye.com. Call toll-free at (877) 554-8341.

Pet grave markers

Pottery grave markers have been used in the past in Alamance, Buncombe, Moore, Randolph and Union counties as an inexpensive but relatively permanent means of marking graves. Pottery Markers of Moore County offers replicas of these historic grave markers for use as pet memorials. A two-line inscription includes the pet’s name and years of birth and death. The markers are turned, inscribed, salt-glazed, and signed by fifth- and sixth-generation Seagrove potters Sid and Matt Luck. The cost of each traditional North Carolina pottery grave marker is $65. Custom designed markers and crematory urns are available as well. Call (910) 948-9996 or visit www.PotteryMarkers.com.
