Sage Meat Loaf

Ingredients

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup crushed saltines
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon rubbed sage
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 1½ pounds ground beef
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the first eight ingredients. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Pat the meat mixture into an ungreased 9-by-5-inch loaf pan. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.

  2. Combine the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard and nutmeg; spread over top. Bake 15-20 minutes longer or until meat is not longer pink and a meat thermometer reads 160 degrees. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.
