Energy Star sales tax holiday: Nov. 4–6

North Carolinians won't have to pay sales tax on Energy Star-rated appliances purchased the weekend of Nov. 4–6. A state law passed in 2008 provides a sales tax exemption for the following appliances as well as geothermal heat pumps:

• Clothes washers
• Freezers and refrigerators
• Central air conditioners and room air conditioners
• Air-source heat pumps and geothermal heat pumps
• Ceiling fans
• Dehumidifiers
• Programmable thermostats

The sales tax exemption is not for commercial purposes or for rental appliances.
