No free rides

When my stepson was about 12 years old he decided he wanted to take his classmates for a ride in a limousine.

My husband was getting ready for work one morning when a lady called. She wanted to confirm that the limousine ride was still on for that evening. My husband asked, “What limousine ride?”

The woman explained that my mother-in-law had called and made arrangements for a limo to come after school and drive my stepson and his friends around town for an hour. She said my mother-in-law had also sent in a check for the ride.

My husband told the lady that he really didn’t think his mother would do such a thing without him knowing. He told her he would find out.

He called his mother and explained the situation. He asked if she had spoken to the lady or if she had sent in a check. She replied, “No!” She was terrified thinking someone was trying to kidnap her grandson. My husband asked her to look inside her checkbook to see if any checks were missing. Sure enough, checks were missing.

My husband rushed to the school house to pick up his son. Then they went to the limousine company to talk to the lady in person. The limousine lady discovered that the grandmother she had spoken to on the phone was actually a 12-year-old boy. And the missing checks, well, I’ll let you figure that one out.

Needless to say, there was no limousine ride from school that day.
My stepson is 29 now and works in the medical field.
