At 16 a teenager’s Halloween plans can be questionable. Are you too old for trick-or-treating? Is anyone hosting a costume party? Should you stay home handing out candy?
As juniors in high school, my friend and I were asking ourselves those questions. Determined to have fun on Halloween we decided to dress up in the craziest costumes we could throw together and pay surprise visits to our friends and family. After school on Halloween we began “making” our costumes. Raiding our moms’ closets, we put on about anything we could find, including random accessories and fake wigs. Once we had thrown on all we could, we set out on our journey. Everyone was surprised to see us and got a good laugh out of how ridiculous we looked.
Thinking back to that night, I am overcome with happy memories, and I laugh to myself when I see the pictures. It made me realize that it’s not the most expensive costume or the one that took weeks to make that always turns out to be your favorite. For me it was a costume thrown together in a few hours that left me with a Halloween I’ll never forget.
