More Bright Ideas For Our Schools

As a parent, I would be greatly pleased if the schools would return to many of the rules and regulations we had when I was in school. If Bible reading was returned to the schools, everyone would probably be shocked what a difference it would make in the lives of the students.

In our grammar grades, the teachers taught verses from the Bible and led the class in prayer. In high school, a student read a prayer over the intercom. I know there would not be as much violence today if we did this. The worst we had was an occasional fight.

We recited the pledge of allegiance, holding one hand over our heart and saluting the flag.

There was a dress code for guys and girls. The young men wore dress slacks, which sure would beat the jeans hanging off the hip and all but losing them. Girls wore dresses. There were no tank tops. Young ladies did not wear jeans or shorts. It was easier for a young man and a young lady to keep his/her mind on why he/she was at school.

If any of my siblings got in trouble at school, by the time they arrived home, mom and dad already knew. The “board of education” was applied. I’m sure the teachers today would appreciate more respect toward them. Somewhere along the way, that has been lost.

I still pray for our school board members, our teachers, as well as the students. Prayer never hurt anyone.
