The Korean Rock
After my sophomore year in high school, my family and I visited South Korea, our native country. My literary magazine teacher told me that she was collecting rocks from special places all around the world. So I agreed to bring her a little rock as a souvenir.
The moment I arrived in Korea I started to look for the special rock for my teacher, Mrs. Everitt, but there just wasn’t a pretty enough rock to bring back to her. One day, while I was on the beach of the Pacific Ocean, I found a little white rock near my old beach house. That was it!
I put the rock in my suitcase and flew back to America. On the first day of school, I proudly walked up to Mrs. Everitt, and as I was handing a little rock to my teacher, I have never been so embarrassed. Especially when you’re coming back from the other side of the world, bring something, anything other than a lousy piece of rock!
