Unprecedented Flooding in Western NC: Here’s How to Help

Tropical Storm Helene has devastated Western North Carolina, damaging thousands of miles of power lines, destroying roads, and displacing families who have found their lives changed in an instant.

As aid workers mobilize and hundreds of electric cooperative lineworkers restore power as quickly and safely as possible, those who were not in the path of the storm may be left asking: How can I help?

NC Emergency Management is accepting monetary donations through the NC Disaster Relief Fund. The Fund, with assistance from the United Way of North Carolina, will help provide for immediate unmet needs through reimbursements to nonprofits working with disaster survivors. Donate online at nc.gov.

Additionally, several local organizations are in need of support. Blue Ridge Public Radio is maintaining a comprehensive list of ways to donate and help flood victims in Western North Carolina.

Damage from Helene

Blue Ridge Energy must build a road before they can tackle repairing power lines.

For those local to Rutherford County, these locations are accepting and distributing hygiene supplies, water and other essentials. Check these locations on social media for the latest updates.
