‘Radiantly Beautiful’ Dogwood
Nearly 80 years ago this month, dogwood blossoms were on the NC General Assembly’s mind. On March 15, 1941, the delicate white flower was designated the official state flower. Legislators declared it “a radiantly beautiful flower which grows abundantly in all parts of this State.” Virginia and Missouri also have honored the dogwood with similar designations.
