In January 2020, we shared information on the planning and construction of a new substation being built in the Burnsville area. Fast forward to 2021: Pee Dee Electric members are served from the new substation.

The Burnsville Substation serves the northern and western parts of Pee Dee Electric’s service area. By moving members over to our Burnsville substation, Pee Dee Electric can now control outage repairs and respond much faster, eliminating our dependency on our power supplier.

With the new substation online and the “Automated Fault Recovery” system in place, members can expect to see less substation-related outages.

In addition to a more timely outage response, the Pee Dee Electric engineering staff created their version of an “Automated Fault Recovery” inside the substation, a first of its kind for Pee Dee Electric. Faults inside substations usually affect members on a large scale, and it can take hours to locate the issue and restore power. The co-op’s engineering team designed this automated recovery system so that outages in the new Burnsville Substation can be restored quickly.

With the new substation online and the “Automated Fault Recovery” system in place, members can expect to see less substation-related outages.

While we are proud of the advancements we have made, Pee Dee Electric will continue to pursue and apply new technologies that give our members the most reliable electric service possible.
