November 2022

November is the time in which we reflect on the things we are grateful for and give thanks. I want to start by thanking our members and their families who had the opportunity to join us at our 82nd Annual Meeting.

At Pee Dee Electric, we are grateful to have members like you. It is through your participation that the cooperative business model remains as resilient today as it was in 1939 when local farmers, ranchers, and families banded together to deliver reliable and affordable electricity to our rural community.

It is also thanks to you, our members, that Pee Dee Electric has the opportunity to provide Care to Share grants supporting various non-profit organizations throughout Richmond, Anson, Scotland, Union, Moore, Montgomery and Stanly counties. Through programs such as Care to Share, made possible by members rounding up their monthly electric bill to the nearest dollar amount, we have been able to recently lend a helping hand to organizations such as the Anson County Arts Council, Candor Volunteer Fire Department, Hamlet Rescue and EMS, City of Hamlet, Lilesville Fire Department, East Rockingham Fire Department, Sandhills AGInnovation Center, Anson Crisis Ministry, Richmond Rescue Squad, Hospice of Union County, and Prancing Horse, Inc. Since the program’s inception in 2005, over $1.6 million in grants have been awarded to non-profit organizations that provide important services to our communities.

November is also a time when veterans are recognized for the sacrifices they selflessly make each day so that we can enjoy the freedoms this great country offers. Pee Dee Electric is thankful for these brave service men and women and is proud to employ veterans like Chad Craven and Brandon Ethridge. We are also proud to be part of the cooperative network that honors and supports veterans of all ages, ranks, and branches within the United States Military. Simply put, thank you for your service and the opportunities your service has offered our families and communities.

While we reflect on the past and present, it is equally important to think about the future, especially with midterm elections right around the corner on Tuesday, November 8. Many important policy issues directly impact electric utilities and, ultimately — you, the members we serve. Voting is a form of personal empowerment that allows you to voice your opinion on the issues that matter most. As we continue to look towards the future, I encourage everyone, regardless of political beliefs, to vote, stand up for our local community, and make a collective impact.

As we enter this holiday season, I encourage you to be thankful for the many blessings we have and to spend time with your loved ones. These are the things that make this time of year so special!
